Muscle Training for Women

Muscle Training for Women

When it comes to strength training in men and women, gaining muscle is a little misunderstood. Women have the same ability to grow muscular mass as men. Although these improvements are based on the overall skeletal structure, size, and testosterone levels, the only difference is the size of the muscle.

The two main hormones involved in lean muscle development are testosterone and the human growth hormone. Both are present in everyone, but men have significantly more testosterone than women. This makes muscle training for women difficult because there is no significant growth as compared to men. In general, women have 15-20 percent lower testosterone levels in their bodies, than men.

Is it true that weight training boosts testosterone in women? Maybe, but not by much. Men’s serum testosterone only increased significantly following strength training, according to a study. And it only rose dramatically when a larger weight was used in the exercise. The bottom line is this: Women are naturally unable to create large muscles like boys without the added testosterone. Science backs this point up. So, when it comes to muscle training in women, we no longer need to be concerned about gaining too much muscle mass.
